How talents changed in Forever

Every class’s talent trees were rebuilt for World of Warcraft: Forever. The big themes, the new capstones, what moved to the trainer, and how to use the talent calculator.

All twenty-seven talent trees were rebuilt for Forever. Of the 466 talents, 141 are new and 242 work differently from Classic. Another 107 Classic talents are gone, many of them because their effect became a trainer spell or merged into another talent. The rules have not changed: one point per level from 10 to 60, 51 in total, and each row opens after five points in that tree.

The capstones

Fifteen of the twenty-seven capstones are new talents. Nine more changed: Bloodthirst now also gives movement speed, Shadowform halves Shadow spell costs and doubles their crit damage, Moonkin Form doubles Omen of Clarity procs, and Holy Shield hits harder. Only Mortal Strike, Bestial Wrath and Adrenaline Rush work as you remember them.

Five themes across every class

Weapon talents adapt to your weapon. Warriors lost Axe, Mace, Polearm and Sword Specialization and gained WeaponmasterWeaponmaster. Rogues lost four weapon specializations and gained Hack and SlashHack and Slash. One talent, whatever you wield, so a weapon upgrade never forces a respec.

Stats convert. Several talents turn a stat your armor already carries into one your spec needs. Hunters get Attack Power from Intellect through Careful AimCareful Aim, Enhancement shamans get both Attack Power and spell power from it through Mental DexterityMental Dexterity and Mental QuicknessMental Quickness, and Retribution paladins get spell damage through Champion of the LightChampion of the Light.

Every caster can regenerate while casting. Paladins have ReverenceReverence, shamans MindfulnessMindfulness, druids ReflectionReflection, priests MeditationMeditation, mages Arcane MeditationArcane Meditation and hunters Bestial DisciplineBestial Discipline.

Debuffs became personal. Shadow WeavingShadow Weaving, Improved ScorchImproved Scorch, Winter's ChillWinter's Chill and Improved Shadow BoltImproved Shadow Bolt now buff only your own damage. Raids no longer need to stack a class to share its debuff.

Core spells moved to the trainer. Blessing of Kings, Consecration, Aimed Shot, Omen of Clarity, Nature's Grasp, Tactical Mastery, Divine Spirit, Lightwell and Magic Attunement are all trainer spells now, so those trees spend the points on something else.

Hit talents moved around

Several classes got their hit from a new place, which changes which off-tree points are mandatory:

Using the calculator

The talent calculator is built for planning as well as theorycrafting:

  • Left-click adds a point, right-click or Shift-click removes one. On a phone, tap a talent and use the plus and minus buttons.
  • New talents carry a green marker and changed ones a gold marker. Hover any talent to see its current and next rank and, for changed talents, what it did in Classic.
  • The point order strip under the trees records the order you spent points in. It doubles as a leveling plan and shows the level each point unlocks.
  • Turn on Talented to model the Legacy perk that unlocks each talent point five levels early.
  • Copy link saves the whole build, order included, in a URL you can share.

Every class guide links its recommended builds straight into the calculator.
